Holman Hunt query

I have received the following query about Holman Hunt; if you can help, please post a reply. Thank you!

“I am a fourth yearstudent from Glasgow University and I am writing my dissertation on Hunt’s Finding of the Saviour in the Temple. I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I could find exhibition information when Gambart toured this painting?”

  1. More information about Gambart’s connection to
the tour of Hunt’s painting might be found in the
book “Gambart: Prince of the Victorian Art World”
(London 1975) by Jeremy Maas. Good luck.

Hunt’s ‘Finding of the Saviour in the Temple’ is held by Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Please go to the Museum’s website http://www.preraphaelites.org. If you search for Hunt you will find the painting followed by a detailed exhibition history and list of books in which the painting is mentioned. I would also recommend coming to Birmingham to see the painting, the curatorial file and anything else the Art Gallery has connected with Hunt and Gambart. You will need to contact the curators before you come to make an appointment. I hope this helps and the best of luck with your dissertation.
